Where to Take Engagement Photos at Mount Seymour

Wondering where to take engagement photos at Mount Seymour, a beautiful spot just outside of Vancouver? As a Vancouver wedding and elopement photographer, I’ve got a list of favourite locations and this one is making its way to the top! No matter the season, no matter your comfort level in the outdoors, no matter the occasion – this location is stunning! Kateland + Brad’s snowy engagement session is proof.

Before I get into where to take engagement photos at Mount Seymour, let’s get into the why! The Mount Seymour area is located in North Vancouver, just 30 minutes from downtown Vancouver. A quick Google will leave you ready to pack up and go explore!

That’s how Kateland + Brad felt when planning their engagement photos! They wanted someone to bring along their pup, not be too far from the city, have ample time for a portrait shoot, but still get a magical winter wonderland vibe and incredible photos! Mount Seymour checked all of the boxes.

So why should you take engagement photos at Mount Seymour?

Location, location, location!

It’s an easy 30-minute drive from downtown Vancouver.

Accessibility.

You don’t need to spend hours hiking in the backcountry like other places in British Columbia! In fact, most of the hikes within Mount Seymour Provincial Park are rather easy and take little time, but there are hikes for all levels. Making them perfect for a portrait shoot with limited time or a simple elopement in nature!

Those views!

Particularly at sunset. This area is perfect for those dreamy mountain photos at golden hour as the sun dips below the horizon. Oftentimes in BC, you need to rent a helicopter or hike for hours to get to views this good, which eliminates sunset as an option altogether. But not at Mount Seymour!

Weather isn’t an issue.

It’s either sunny or snowing in this area, which means good weather for engagement photos no matter what! I personally love wintertime for this location, but summer is beautiful too!

It’s a no-brainer decision, really! Just have a look at Katelyn and Brad’s gallery! But before you scroll too far, let’s get into the where. Here are the top 3 hikes and locations I recommend!

Where to take engagement photos at Mount Seymour!

1. Dog Mountain.

This spot isn’t as great for the summer (the trail has a ton of roots to scramble across), but in wintertime, it’s a must-see! It’s only 45 minutes of hiking each way with little elevation gain, making it great for photos! You are rewarded with gorgeous views, both of the city and the mountains. Weekdays are best for this location because it’s known to be a bit busy!

2. Dinkey Peak.

This magical little peak is where Kateland and Brad took their photos! In the beginning, you will face a bit of steep elevation, but eventually, you’ll come to a clearing through the forest. In the winter, it’s the winter wonderland of a snow lover’s dreams.

3. Top of Mount Seymour.

This peak is a longer and more challenging hike, but considering the views you get, it’s worth the work! The further you go into the mountains, the fewer crowds you’ll face, so if you’re looking for privacy this one's for you. It takes around 4-5 hours to complete at around 8km. Along the way though, you’ll reach Brockton Point, which could be a good stopping point if you’re pressed for time or low on energy. It’s accessible in both the winter and the summertime and it’s easy to find spots around a corner with less people.

The truth is that British Columbia is full of incredible spots for an engagement shoot or intimate elopement! The area is a gift of scenic views, stunning nature, and well-maintained trails for adventure seekers and outdoor lovers.

Mount Seymour is a perfect option if snowy engagement photos in a winter paradise if what you are looking for!
