Sunwolf Riverside Resort: The Perfect Squamish Wedding Venue for Outdoor Lovers

It’s no secret that the Sea to Sky has plenty of dreamy place to get married, but when it comes to choosing a Squamish wedding venue – Sunwolf is at the top of my recommendations. If you’re a big nature lover and imagine a laid-back space for a weekend wedding retreat, this is the place. So when Jaclyn and Jeff asked me to photograph their Sunwolf wedding, I was elated.

Why is Sunwolf the perfect Squamish wedding venue?

Sunwolf is truly a unique spot to get married, especially if you’re envisioning a ceremony surrounded by nature – forests, mountains, rivers – and want somewhere that checks many of the same boxes as some more traditional wedding venues. Think summer camp, national park campground, and wilderness retreat combined!

Situated along the Cheakamus River, Sunwolf has all of the amenities you could need to throw an intimate wedding. Fabulous catering, on-site accommodation, and stunning ceremony sites, just to name a few.

While giving a rustic, character-filled feel, there is no shortage of comfort in their cabin rooms. For an intimate wedding day, your entire guest list could likely stay on their grounds, meaning no need for transportation after a night full of fun. It could easily be rented for the whole weekend, giving a nature retreat vibe rather than just a ceremony.

Your guests will be blown away by Fergie’s Cafe, the on-site restaurant that will cater your rehearsal dinner, cocktail hour, and reception plus even a snack or two!

The grounds are so full of epic photo locations, you won’t need to leave to travel for beautiful images. The Cheakamus River itself is insanely beautiful, as it's powered by glacial runoff which gives it that magical blueish colour (especially mid-summer to late fall). The grounds are nestled into the mossy forest, including a simple yet stunning ceremony site complete with wooden benches and a backdrop of endless trees.

And a tent set-up for your reception ensures that you’ll have an amazing time, no matter the weather. Plus this Squamish wedding venue is dog friendly, a rare find in the Sea to Sky. Can you tell it’s undoubtedly one of my favourite places for an intimate wedding in the area?!

Inspiration for Sunwolf Wedding: Jaclyn and Jeff’s Wedding Weekend Getaway

Luckily, you don’t just have to take my word that Sunwolf is a dream! Jaclyn and Jeff’s wedding can show you just how amazing it is and maybe give you a little bit of inspiration for your day. Here’s how their day went (plus a sneak peek at their wedding photo gallery too)!

It started off with these two getting ready in two of the cozy cabins on the property. Jeff got ready with their dog, Daisy, who you’ll see played quite the part in their wedding day. He sported an Indochino suit, which allows you to choose a custom lining and even custom embroidery.  Jaclyn got ready along with her best friend and Mom. Her bridal attire was absolutely gorgeous, her dress, the bow, her hair, the veil – it was all perfection.

These two didn’t have just one first look, but a few! Jeff did a first look with his parents, which isn’t common, but quickly became one of my favourite traditions! Jaclyn did a first look with her stepfather and mother. And finally, a first look with Jeff and Daisy, where Jeff revealed the embroidered message in his suit jacket. Stitched into the inside was “if found, return to Jaclyn”. I mean… how cute is that?! There wasn’t a dry eye for any of the first looks, by the way. Each one had its own incredibly sweet and meaningful moment.

Their ceremony was in the forest, with simple wooden benches for guest seating, and only the trees as a backdrop as they said I Dos. Daisy walked down the aisle with Jeff and was there to greet her mama after she walked down the aisle, too. Tears were flowing from every guest as they has a sweet, authentic ceremony with touching personal vows.

While we frolicked off for wedding portraits around the property, guests played lawn games and enjoyed time spent with one another. I couldn’t get enough of Jeff’s grandma, who was the gem of the guest list and absolutely stole the show. The guests didn’t even notice when we snuck off for photos by the river and in the forest, not having to go far for superior views. Of course, we didn’t forget the group and family photos before the reception began.

Thanks to the tent set up by Sunwolf, we didn’t even bat an eye when there was a chance of rain later that night during their summer camp-styled reception with yummy food and a few toasts under twinkling lights. Luckily the rain held off until the end of the night, but for a Squamish wedding venue, it’s always good to be prepared!  The entire day was flawless thanks to wedding planning by Caroline at Love & Confetti! I can’t forget to shout out the Fox & Oak doughnuts, which were truly to die for. Both are vendors local to Squamish – perfect for your wedding at Sunwolf!
